FO: Andrea Mowry Tessellated Socks finished!: Cruellas Natural Fibre Boutique

Last week we hinted that we’d been busy working on the Andrea Mowry Totally Tessellated Socks 5 day challenge. We’ve got a few completed pairs from members of our knitting group to show you! These socks came together pretty quickly, not quite in 5 days but we “embrace our own pace” around here 😉

We made these socks using Mille Socks & Lace luxe for a bit of sparkle, along with Baby Suri Brushed Alpaca & Silk yarn and our very own hand-dyed Spritzer 4ply. The result is a gorgeous soft and warm sock with a lot of visual interest. The slip stitch pattern makes these socks an engaging and fun knit. These socks feature an Afterthought Heel, a technique where the sock is finished as a flat tube with a piece of scrap yarn knitted in to mark your heel placement. At the end stitches are picked up for the heel and worked in the round with decreases at each side (just like the toe of the sock) thus avoiding heel flaps, short rows, or heel turns of any description! It’s a great method of creating a heel for those of you who are keen to dabble in sock knitting for the first time.
