Dreams…

Dreams…
Greetings dear friends & fellow navigators, welcome to my world this week. I wanted to write today because we are often being so hard on ourselves when we are chasing what we really want. We guilt trip ourselves sometimes because we want to be ‘serious’ about our dreams.

But you can be serious about your dreams & still have fun. They are not mutually exclusive. Do you think you will be happy if you have to sacrifice everything to reach your dreams? But you can be serious about your dreams & still have fun. They are not mutually exclusive. Life is an experience, & indeed, we need to experience it.

First things first; are we guilty of being obsessed? We can be so obsessed with our dreams we sacrifice sleep & practically live in hustle mode. We are on a mission, yes sir! But when was the last time you felt free?

Ambition is fantastic. But if you think you can start having fun after you achieve your dreams, you are gaslighting, & manipulating yourself into questioning ones’ own perception of reality…

I know all the time I kept chasing. I did well, & was fed this same delusion. So I sacrificed hobbies & chased those top positions around the country. I chased the next big thing & then the next. Eventually, it became clear this was not it & my true ambitions lay elsewhere.

We get so obsessed with chasing one thing after the other, & man, we forget how to live. But what if when we finally achieve the big dream, we realize we lost more than we had? Would it be worth it? All the little things seem less important when we have bigger things to chase after. It is such an unfair compromise.
Do you remember when we never once missed a chance to appreciate the smell of rain in the air? Subsequently, one barely even realizes when it rains. You voluntarily lock yourself inside four walls. You laugh less & spend more time by yourself because it feels like everyone else is holding you back. Maybe your friends are not able to contribute to your dreams, but is this the kind of life you want to live?

What is the point of nailing success if we have to sacrifice our soul, youth, friends, sanity & our sense of humour to get there? Not every day has to be a hustle & you are allowed to have fun. Slow down & allow people to splash some colours in your life.

Life allows some harmless cheating without any consequences. We are allowed to enjoy it. You worked so hard the whole week & if rewarding yourself can make you appreciate the work you put in, do it by all means.

We are not cheating on ourselves if we are having too much fun! Sometimes, there is this feeling, if life is going well, something is bound to go wrong sooner or later. We contain our emotions & limit happiness in the hope of “balancing” the scale. But there is nothing wrong with being happy. Just like how our lows can go really low, our highs can get really high.

We do not have to sacrifice everything to become who we want to be. Imagine how lonely it can get on the top if we do not have people to celebrate our victories with. Imagine how sad & selfish it would be for us to chase our dream & leave everyone behind to get it.

This moment we are living now, we are not going to live it again. Some of the most beautiful things happen when they come naturally. After all, what is the point of dreaming if you are slowly dying while chasing it?

Just few observations again dear friends, & provide merely an opinion in my world. Thank you again for stopping by, I appreciate your being here. If my journey encourages you also, all is well with my soul. I hope your days are filled with love & affection. Looking forward to being back next week; this is Kenn Butler in Paradise, Nelson with best wishes.
