Flexible part time (20 hours per week), contract for service opportunity (8 months)

The Arts Council of Nelson is looking to transition itself to become the Arts Development Agency for Nelson. This agency will be the primary point of contact for the entire arts sector in Whakatū. This includes being an arts and cultural touch point for all industry sectors in the top of the south e.g. tourism and construction.

Mō te tūranga mahi – About the role

Through consultation with the Arts Council Nelson staff and key stakeholders, this role will guide and spearhead the successful agency transition through the stages of a strategic planning process and implementation. Specific roles include:
Reporting requirements to the City Council
Funding strategies
A marketing Strategy
Staffing requirements
Policies and procedures
A new governance model

Mōu – About you

Naturally you will have a passion for the Arts and be motivated to establish the Arts as a key focus for the Nelson Community.

Ideally you will be well networked in the Nelson community with key relationships with local Iwi and Tangata whenua, Nelson Regional Development Agency, Nelson Tasman Chamber of Commerce, Local Councils and key stakeholders in the creative sector including artists, galleries and arts organisations. We are however open to those who are not living in the region but who have direct experience in this area of work.

You will be a strategic thinker with a wealth of experience in collaborating with stakeholders to deliver a strategic transition plan in a timely manner. You (or your company) may have had worked in leadership roles where you have had to successfully bring change to organisations or you may already be involved in the Arts and want to make a difference in the Nelson Arts sector.

Taking ownership of standards of excellence is key along with working positively with all involved with the project. High levels of respect need to be shown to iwi and their unique relationship with the land and its people.

Tohu Mātauranga me Tautōhito-Qualifications and Experience
An understanding of and enthusiasm for the kaupapa and mahi of Community Arts Councils
Understanding of Nelson’s arts and cultural sector.
A highly emotionally intelligent leader of self and others
5-10 years strategic planning experience
Experience in report writing and presentation skills
Experience in Project Management
A unique opportunity to be involved with the future of the Arts in the Top of the South.

Budgeted salary for the Role is between $90,000 and $100,000 (FTE) – pro rata back to hours worked.
