Last opportunity to take a Sanctuary glowworm tour in 2024: The Brook Waimārama Sanctuary
This is your last opportunity to take a Sanctuary glowworm tour in 2024, we’ve added four new dates. We’ve now added four additional dates, 24, 25, 27 and 28 September, these will be the last tours for the 2024 tour season.
The tours at the “supporter pricing” level are available for paid-up Sanctuary supporters (aka members) only.
Our glowworm tour is a special experience which will delight night-time visitors. Experiencing the Sanctuary in the dark is a completely different experience compared to visiting during the day, your senses will be heightened. Smell the forest, hear the Brook Stream gurgling in the background and perhaps hear the occasional hoot of a ruru (morepork), and marvel at the stars in the night sky away from the city lights. You’ll see the glowing bioluminescence points of light generated by the glowworms living in the sheltered banks of the Sanctuary pathways.
“It was absolutely breath-taking up there last night!!!”
These tours are subject to the availability of (mostly) volunteer guides and are weather dependent – we reserve the right to cancel tours if two guides per tour are not available as the safety of our visitors, volunteers and staff is of paramount importance. Tours will go ahead if light rain is predicted (ideal weather for glowworm tours), however, if heavy rain is predicted, tours will be deferred or cancelled.
Tours require a minimum of four (4) participants, we reserve the right to cancel a tour if the minimum number of participants isn’t reached.
