Shaker Boxes course – Centre for Fine Woodworking, New Zealand

There are still a few places left on our Shaker Boxes course – 26th & 27th September 2024
Steam bent, bentwood and shaker boxes are all terms used to describe the traditional boxes made by the Shaker movement that uses steam to bend solid timber laminations into the iconic oval shape of the boxes.
While simplicity and functionality played a major role in furniture and household items, fine craftsmanship and the integration of detailing has become synonymous with the “Shaker” style.
These joyous boxes are a true representation of the balance between form and function where the “fingers” or “gothic arches” cleverly combine functional construction with a beautiful design element.
