Present to you the Relaxagon shirt (pattern by Caroline Zuschlag): Cruellas Natural Fibre Boutique
Finished! After a long time procrastinating sewing in all the ends on this piece I present to you the Relaxagon shirt (pattern by Caroline Zuschlag), and the weather is finally warm enough to wear it. I’ve been keen to have a go with the DMC eco vita recycled cotton yarn for a while, waiting for the perfect project to come along.
It starts at the armpit of all places, increasing in a hexagon shape, and when you fold it in half, it magically turns into half of a shirt in a mind bending way.
I love creating pieces with unique constructions, so this shirt really scratched that itch for me. Plus, since it’s almost entirely made of granny stitch clusters, it was a fairly mindless and relaxing project.
I did make a couple of modifications to the pattern, mainly cropping the length and adding some shaping to the neckline so my collar fits just right.
I was surprisingly nervous to try this on, as I’ve had a few fit fails over the past couple of years, but I’m happy to report that I’m thrilled to bits with this project!
The yarn has been enjoyable to work with too and I’m curious as to how well it will perform as a garment – I find some 100% cotton yarns tend to skew and stretch when washed so I have high hopes that the chainette construction of eco vita will prevent this from happening. Now I’m off to make one of these shirts in every colour 😁
