Seeking…

Greeting dear friends & fellow navigators, & welcome to my world today. In my last article I opened the conversation with: ‘deep down, beneath the expectation & self-imposed restraint, there is a quiet longing to matter.’

Today, I wanted to develop these thoughts a little further. We are a generation with everything at our fingertips, yet ironically, the things to truly matter require us to look beyond the surface. We are searching, still looking, & have never been more connected, but inside, we feel more lost than ever before.

We float between expectations & reality, between dreams we once carried like badges of honour & a world insisting we put them away. We aim high, thinking the world is ours to conquer, but it turns out to be more complex than we imagined. It does not bend so easily to our will. And somewhere along the way, we wonder, “What is it all for?”

The noise, the rush, & endless race toward something better, something brighter ~ it is confusing. Even when we get there, it feels like something is missing. Like standing at the top of the hill, only to realize it is not as beautiful as we thought it would be.

Whilst we always appear connected, deep down, we are searching for something real, something lasting. We long for relationships which do not end. We crave companionship, yet sometimes we forget how to truly be with the thoughts of someone else ~ or even our own.

We are searching for meaning in places where it does not live. Success, attention, & validation ~ when they vanish, we are left questioning whether we ever knew what we were chasing. We get so used to measuring ourselves with external factors, we lose touch with the inner self who once guided us.

But maybe, in this wandering, we are getting closer to finding something true. Because when we are lost, we start to ask the right questions. We question everything. We begin to contemplate & look deep within ourselves. When we are lost, we have the freedom to explore, & in this freedom, we find something not laid out in the plans we made years ago.

We are not lost because we are not good enough. Rather, we are lost because we are searching, & this search might be the most important voyage we will ever make. We are not lost because we do not know where we are going. We are lost because we are still figuring out what matters in a world where purpose is not handed to us on a gold platter. It does not make us failures; it makes us seekers. We are still looking for answers we do not have ~ yet. But perhaps, someday we will.

No one talks about how confusing it is to live in a world with infinite choices. But everyone talks about how we are not doing enough, despite all these choices. Yes, we could be described as a generation of lost people. But maybe, we are not lost at all, rather people who refuse to accept life for what it is. We do not exactly know what we want ~ yet; but we will figure it out. Maybe being lost is just another word for being free ~ free to question & free to change.

Just few observations again dear friends, & provide an opinion in my world. Thank you for stopping by, I appreciate your being here. If my journey encourages you also, all is well with my soul. Looking forward to next week; this is Kenn Butler in Paradise, Nelson with best wishes.
