The exhibition Mana Māna will be opening at the Nelson Provincial Museum.

[OPENING SOON] This Friday, the exhibition Mana Māna will be opening at the Nelson Provincial Museum.
In Mana Māna, local artist Kim Ireland (Tūhourangi, Tapuika, Korean) explores whakapapa and intergenerational strength through uku (clay). Inspired by gourds, Ireland’s work reflects the connection between wāhine and tīpuna wahine, providing guidance and strength in times of te pō (darkness).
Mana Māna (gifted by Karangawai Marsh) embodies strength, authority, determination and the act of passing on. Drawing from her own experiences of intergenerational trauma and as a mother to transgender tama, Ireland reflects:
“I look to our mana atua wāhine. What is within these ancient pūrākau? How can our atua wāhine assist with our mental wellbeing in times of te pō?”
Don’t miss this powerful exploration of strength and whakapapa.
