Here & Now…
Greeting dear friends & fellow navigators, & welcome to my world today. It is strange how often we live everywhere except the present moment.
We spend our days walking through time like ghosts. Our eyes are open, yes, but our minds are elsewhere. We are thinking about what just happened, what we should have said, what we still need to do or what may never come. We are always preparing, fixing, regretting, & rehearsing, & while we are lost in thought, life is happening. Right now. Right here. In all it is chaos & glory, & we are missing it.
The sky has recently been putting on a masterpiece many evenings, with hues of fire & blush melting into blue, & we do not even look up. A child is laughing, wide & unfiltered, just a few feet away, & we do not even turn our heads. The air smells like summer rain or fresh bread or cut grass, & we do not breathe it in like it deserves. The wind dances through the trees like it is trying to tell us a secret, & we do not even notice.
We get so good at surviving, at moving from one checkbox to the next, we forget we are allowed to just… be. We forget stillness is not the same as laziness. The being present is not wasting time. It is the opposite. It is honouring it & being brave enough to fully inhabit the only thing we ever really have… now.
This moment we are in ~ this tiny, flickering fragment of time, is the only thing to be real. The past is smoke. The future is fiction. But right now? Right now is flesh, breath, colour & heartbeat. It is the warmth of the mug in your hands. The soft rhythm of your breath. The glint of dust suspended in a golden sunbeam. Right now is the only place life ever actually happens.
It does not wait until you have caught up. It does not pause while you sort yourself out. It just goes. With or without you.
We keep telling ourselves we will start living once things calm down. Once we are in shape. Once we are in love. Once we figure it all out. But life does not begin at some checkpoint. If you are always waiting for the perfect moment to arrive, you might spend your whole life missing all the
imperfectly beautiful ones. So what are you waiting for?
Stop scrolling. Stop worrying about what they think, or what comes next, or whether you are doing it all right. Look around. Let your eyes linger on something ordinary until it becomes extraordinary.
Feel the weight of your own body in a chair. Hear the hum of the world. Notice the way the light falls through the window & spills across the floor like it is painting your life.
Taste your coffee. Not like a routine, but like a ritual. Watch the person you love when they are not looking ~ notice the way they fidget with their sleeve or smile at their phone. Touch the earth with your bare feet. Let it ground you. Laugh out loud. Cry if you need to. Let yourself be moved. Let yourself be here.
Because this is it. This moment. This breath. This heartbeat. Life is not something we arrive at. It is what we are standing in the middle of. It is messy, & unpredictable, & sometimes unbearably fragile, but it is also radiant & miraculous & full of tiny, golden glimpses of magic. A glance. A breeze. A bite of something warm. A song which takes you back. A hand in yours.
If you are always somewhere else, in your head, in your phone, in a someday to never come, you are going to miss the only thing which was ever truly yours. Right here. Right now, & it is more than enough.
You might want to try this reflection thing too. Do not let the noise of the digital world dim the light in your eyes or drown out your voice.
Just few observations again dear friends, & provide an opinion in my world. Thank you for stopping by, I appreciate your being here. If my journey encourages you also, all is well with my soul.
Looking forward to next week; this is Kenn Butler in Paradise, Nelson with best wishes.
