Introducting Karuna from Twill Textile Design: Little Beehive Co-op
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be serving you an inside look at our fabulous Beehive crew
—the creative powerhouses who keep this place buzzing. A wee Q&A/peek into their day-to-day magic as makers. Our next introduction is Karuna from Twill Textile Design ✨
What is your typical morning routine like and how does it prepare you for your creative work?
Mornings typically start with a quiet cuppa and a short walk outdoors. I’ll often scribble a to-do list somewhere.Taking time to reflect and move through our beautiful green spaces really sets me up for the day ahead.
What elements are most important for you to be productive & creative?
In no particular order……Experience, enthusiasm, technical knowledge, quality natural materials, well maintained equipment, wonderful people and gratitude.
What are your primary sources of inspiration, and how do they translate into your work?
Nature is my biggest inspiration, along with all the colours, materials & techniques I work with.
I hope my joy for these jumps into the textile products I make.
What type of environment makes you happiest and most productive?
My tiny studio is very full of supplies & equipment, so the best I can aim for is ‘organised chaos’. I try to put things away at the end of the day, so I can start fresh and be inspired the next. It’s a constant work in progress, but I’m deeply grateful for my creative space.
Do you have a favourite podcast or album you like to listen to while you work?
It varies a lot and depends on what I’m doing. For complex work, I prefer quiet to focus. For repetitive activities, I’ll listen to a current favourite playlist or audio book.
