Night closures, traffic management for Rocks Rd
Nelson drivers are being warned to plan for disruption along Rocks Rd, with night closures and traffic management planned for the busy stretch of State Highway 6.
From Sunday until Friday morning the southbound lane on Rocks Rd below The Cliffs, will be closed between 7pm and 6am while contractors work above the state highway.

Stop/go traffic lights and a 30kph speed limit will be in place to ensure the safety of all road users.
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi area manager Nelson-Tasman Rob Service said contractors were making great progress on the southern end of the cliff face and will use this time to clear vegetation from the top of the cliff.
“A crane will be on site to reposition the drill rigs and to lift rock anchors into place prior to installation. This provides safe access for our crews and makes their work easier to do.
“Abseilers will also work through the night, drilling anchors into the cliff face close to the existing shotcrete to improve the cliff’s resilience.”
Further night works are scheduled for mid-June when stainless-steel mesh will be installed at the southern end of the cliff face before abseilers move to the northern end.
From June until the work is completed in November, further traffic management would also be set up to ensure the project is completed on time, he said.
“Two lanes will remain open; however, the lanes will be shifted closer to the seaside to provide a safe work area. We appreciate the impact this will have on both cyclists and motorists, and we apologise for any inconvenience.”
Cyclists were legally allowed to use the road and would be encouraged to “claim the lane” through the work site to ensure their safety, he said.
“We urge everyone to stick to the 30kph reduced temporary speed limit that will apply at all times and be mindful of sharing the road.”
The footpath will remain open at all times for pedestrians.
