Step Back in Time: A 70’s & 80’s Party at The Rutherford Hotel
Dust off the flares, tease up the hair, polish those dancing shoes, and get ready for a night of music, memories, food, and feel-good fun at one of Nelson’s most iconic hotels.
On Friday 24 July, The Rutherford Hotel invites you to step back into the golden glow of the 1970s and 1980s for a lively evening inspired by the hotel’s original opening night on 18 December 1972.
Held in Oceano Restaurant, this special evening will recreate the spirit of the era with a generous buffet inspired by the original Rutherford opening dinner menu. Expect nostalgic favourites and classic flavours, including prawn cocktail, a Beef Wellington carvery, and other retro-inspired dishes prepared with a modern Rutherford touch.
The evening begins from 5.00pm, with doors open, welcome drinks and canapés served on arrival. Dinner will begin from 6.30pm, followed by a night of music, dancing, and celebration with a DJ and dancefloor to keep the party going.
Dress-up is expressly encouraged, so channel your inner disco star, rock legend, ABBA icon, lounge suit hero, or 80’s glam queen. The best dressed guest will win a night at The Rutherford Hotel, including breakfast and late check-out.
This is more than just a dinner. It is a celebration of Rutherford history, Nelson nostalgia, and the joy of coming together for a night that feels just a little bit magical. With good food, great music, and plenty of sparkle, this promises to be a memorable evening within the walls of a much-loved local icon.
This will be the first in a series of public events at The Rutherford Hotel, and tickets are strictly limited.
