Big Brothers Big Sisters Calls on Community to Back Annual Fundraiser

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nelson-Tasman is calling on the community to get behind its annual Fundraising Dinner and Charity Auction, being held at the Rutherford Hotel on Friday 28 August.

The event is the organisation’s largest fundraiser of the year and contributes approximately 20% of its annual operating costs. Around 200 people have already committed to attending, but with less than three weeks to go, there are still seats available.

Big Brothers Big Sisters has been supporting young people across Nelson-Tasman for 28 years and currently has 168 young people matched with volunteer Big Brothers and Big Sisters.

Mentors catch up regularly with their young person, providing consistency, encouragement, new experiences and another trusted adult in their corner. The average match now lasts more than three years, allowing strong and meaningful relationships to develop over time. Behind each match is an extensive programme of recruitment, screening, training, matching and ongoing support for mentors, young people and their families.

Big Brothers Big Sisters recognises that filling the room is more challenging this year, but hopes the community will continue to support a programme that has been making a difference locally for nearly three decades.

Every ticket purchased, auction bid and donation helps ensure more young people across Nelson, Tasman, Motueka and Golden Bay can benefit from having a positive adult mentor in their lives.
