This vibrant exhibition explores the history, artistry and meaning of one of South Asia’s most iconic garments.
Featuring sarees from India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Pakistan, alongside photographs and personal stories, the exhibition reveals the saree as a living tradition – carrying identity, memory and belonging across generations.
From intricate weaves and vibrant colours to distinctive regional patterns, discover the craftsmanship and creativity woven into each saree, and explore how this timeless garment continues to evolve.
Developed in collaboration with Cultural Conversations and Nelson Arts Festival, Unravelling the Saree – Beyond the Fold invites us to consider the stories, connections and traditions woven into our shared cultural fabric.
