Ordinary Wonders is now open
Last Friday, we officially opened Ordinary Wonders at Tāwera, and what a beautiful celebration of community it was.
More than 90 artworks are now on display, sharing memories, stories and creative responses from people across Te Tauihu. The opening brought together artists, people who generously shared their stories, whānau, community organisations, supporters and friends, creating a special atmosphere of connection and celebration.
We were privileged to have Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Tuia te Matangi perform, and the floor was opened for artists and people who shared their memories to speak. Hearing directly from the people whose memories and creativity make up the exhibition was a particularly special part of the evening.
We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has helped bring Ordinary Wonders to life, and to everyone who has contributed their creativity, stories, time and care. And for the support we have received from the Nelson City Council Community Events Fund towards the opening of Ordinary Wonders.
The exhibition is open until 16 September, with a programme of free events, workshops, screenings and conversations happening alongside it.

Embarrassed, Naked Female: Show Screening Followed by a Facilitated Discussion
Friday, 21 August,

A screening of Elsa’s powerful and thought-provoking show, followed by a facilitated discussion with Elsa joining us online. The work explores body image, vulnerability, shame and the experiences of being a woman, creating space for honest conversation and reflection.

The Art of Holding Spaces: Creating Safe Theatre, Film, Exhibition, and Music Industry Experiences

This session explores the practical art of holding spaces across the creative industries, with an opportunity to reflect on how we can contribute to safer and more supportive environments for artists, audiences, participants and communities.

Little Matters T-Shirt Design Activities
Sometimes the smallest moments leave the biggest mark.
Join us to create a T-shirt celebrating the everyday acts of care, kindness, inclusion and connection that help children feel safe, valued and supported.
Inspired by the Little Matters movement, well explore how small actions can strengthen the safety of children and their sense of belonging. Selected designs will be professionally printed and gifted to participants before the exhibition closes, celebrating the little things that help children and whānau thrive.
