Ordinary Wonders exhibition as our opening show at Tāwera
We’ve so enjoyed having the Ordinary Wonders exhibition as our opening show at Tāwera, especially as it’s giving back so much to everyone who comes to see it.
Organised by Hikitia! RISE: Respect Inspire Support Empower, Ordinary Wonders closes on Wed 18 Sept.
At the heart of Ordinary Wonders is recognising that small moments of care, respect and connection can have an extraordinary impact.
Ordinary Wonders features more than 80 artworks with 80 little stories. More than that, when you visit the galleries, you’re invited to become part of the exhibition through interactive activities exploring safety, consent, connection and belonging.
You can create a design inspired by something that matters to you – from kindness and listening to speaking up, respect, boundaries or connection. Some designs will make the leap from paper to fabric, with T-shirts printed and gifted back to their creators. You can also take home free Little Matters resources for families and whānau, and those working alongside children and families. These offer practical ideas and tools to strengthen the conversations, relationships and actions that help keep children safe.
Our Community Safety Landscape is an evolving collaborative artwork reflecting what safety looks and feels like across our community. and an ever-evolving video installation – I Shared This with Consent – turns the focus to our online lives. You can take a photo in the gallery and contribute it the installation, while thinking about what they happens to it. Once an image is shared, it can be copied, saved, altered or passed on – but consent doesn’t automatically travel with it.
Together, these activities reflect the primary prevention approach underpinning the work of Hikitia!: strengthening safe, respectful and connected relationships and encouraging everyday actions and conversations that can help prevent family violence, sexual violence and child sexual abuse before they happen.
Don’t miss Ordinary Wonders to come in, explore, take part and add your voice.
