Seize the day…

Greeting dear friends & fellow navigators, & welcome to my world this week. I was just sitting in my conservatory alone when, as it often happens, a bundle of thoughts came crashing into my mind.
Maybe you know what I mean. When you are alone, your mind suddenly has the freedom to bring up everything you do not have time to think about when you are surrounded by people.

I am not a traditional extrovert. I mostly try to blend in. I walk into a crowded room &, somewhere in my head, I am already praying, God, please take care of everything. What people see is
someone smiling, being polite, & not talking too much. What they do not see is everything I am holding inside. Sometimes, my brain starts questioning the smallest things.

What if they judge me because I do not know how to use chopsticks properly? What if I am eating the wrong way? Then I realised something. Maybe our brains do not become this hyper
aware of everything for no reason.

Maybe we learn it. When people constantly point things out about you, you eventually start looking at yourself through their eyes. For example, “You are gaining or losing weight;” or “Why
has your hair become so thin?”

Slowly, without even realising it, you become conscious of things you never used to think about. You start checking yourself before anyone else gets a chance. You start wondering how you are
sitting. How you are eating. How you are standing. How you look. How you are being perceived.

Honestly, I have one question for all of us: Why do we not just let people live their lives the way they want to? Why do we feel the need to comment on someone’s body, face, hair, skin, clothes,
food, habits, or appearance? Why do we think every difference needs to be corrected? I am finally at a stage in life where opinions from others do not matter to me the way they once did.

I am writing this for anyone who has ever felt insecure because someone else made them feel like something about them was not good enough. If you do not like my nose, this is your problem. I
am not going to change it because you do not like it. No, I did not do something to prove anything to you. I did it because I wanted to & this is the difference.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to change yourself. There is something exhausting about feeling like you must change yourself because everyone else has an opinion. Because the truth is,
if you change one thing for them, they will find another. There will always be something.

So maybe we should stop trying to win a game never designed to be won. Change your behaviour when you believe it needs changing. Change your body when you want to. Wear
something because you love it. Get a procedure because you genuinely want it. Do not get one because someone made you feel ugly without it.

If you do not want to change anything, do not do anything. You do not owe anyone a version of yourself to make them more comfortable.

So, to anyone who has spent too much time worrying about how they are being perceived. Keep your body the way you want it & leave people to talk. Because at the end of the day, it is your
life. Not theirs.

Live & let others live. Carpe diem, & maybe, just maybe, stop letting the opinions of other people take up space in a life belonging entirely to you.

Just few observations again dear friends & provide an opinion in my world. Thank you for stopping by, I appreciate your being here. If my journey encourages you also, all is well with my soul. Looking forward to next week; this is Kenn Butler in Paradise, Nelson with best wishes.
