Introducing our Festival Whānau of Friends
Nelson Arts Festival has been bringing together artists, audiences and arts experiences in Whakatū for more than three decades.
As a not-for-profit, we rely on the generosity of our community to keep the Festival ambitious, accessible, and deeply connected to the place we call home.
This Spring, we’re excited to launch our new Friends programme – a way for individuals who love the Festival to support its future and connect more closely with the work we do.
There are three levels of support – Kakaruai, Kāhu and Whio – each offering a different way to contribute.
Your support helps bring artists to Whakatū, keep tickets within reach, create shared Festival moments across the city, and build a stronger future for the arts in our region.

By becoming a Kakaruai, Kāhu or Whio supporter, you help bring artists to Whakatū, provide development opportunities for local artists, keep ticket prices within reach, create shared Festival moments across the city, and build a stronger future for the arts in our region.
Your support can help:
Bring world class artists here by supporting their travel and accommodation costs, paying them fairly for their mahi, and ensuring we can offer them the very best manaakitanga during their stay
Open the door through accessible tickets, under-25 tickets, and community access
Keep the city buzzing with free events, public activations, and street-level Festival energy
Back new work, develop local artists and support kaupapa Māori programming
Enable the next chapter of Nelson Arts Festival
Becoming a Friend is also a chance to feel more connected to the Festival. Depending on your level of support, you may receive early programme previews, priority booking, Festival updates, invitations to special events, recognition across the Festival, and opportunities to meet and interact with the artists, ideas and arts experiences you help bring to life. For all three tiers, we also offer two payment options (pay in one lump sum or spread your payment across four instalments).
