Meet Nelson local Caleb Harcus!: Nelson Provincial Museum
A self-described “collector, borderline hoarder” with a love for Nelson and quirky treasures from the past, Caleb is the person behind these colourful mugs and fridge magnets you’ll find in our Museum Shop!
Featuring a vintage illustration of Tāhunanui Beach from a 1930s tourism cigarette card, they’re a lovely little nod to Nelson’s past.
Following a life-changing accident in 2010 that left him quadriplegic, Caleb has found real pride and purpose in his creative project. For him, it’s about more than selling mugs and magnets. It’s about doing something he loves, being part of the community and showing his son Ethan that he’s out there working and making things happen.
Caleb regularly passes the Museum and loves spotting his mugs through the shop window. He describes the Museum as one of Nelson’s community hubs and a wonderful place for local products to find a home.
We love being able to support local creativity and share the stories of the people behind the products on our shelves.
Next time you’re visiting, pop into the Museum Shop and check out Caleb’s mugs and magnets!
