Find Yourself in the Centre of New Zealand
Uplift float centre is proudly owned and operated by a regular float enthusiast , Reuben. My first float experience was an amazing one, I knew from the moment I lay inside a pod that this was something I wanted to bring to Nelson and provide everyone that floats at Uplift with the same opportunity to improve themselves both mentally and physically.
Why Float
We believe that what’s on the inside is very important. We believe that if you are happy and healthy yourself, then you are more able to give your best to someone else and make the world a better place. Here at Uplift we get a kick out of helping people relax, de-stress, recover and generally become better people. In short, we are here to uplift you so that you can uplift others!
STRESS RELIEF, RELAXATION: For the fast paced, business minded, non-stoppers, hands on parents, and anyone in need of a break
We live in a world overrun by stress. Our sensory responses (sights, sounds, smells and subsequent thoughts) allow us to unconsciously navigate our busy world on a daily basis. But modern living can fill us with way too much input- higher living costs, longer work hours, societal pressure and technology have created a fast paced environment in which our minds and bodies are constantly on the go and our leisure time forgotten. Our body responds to this stress and we go into sensory overload, or ‘fight or flight mode’. Once overloaded, our moods are affected and pretty soon we’re experiencing everything as stressful, we’re over-responding to all manner of daily interactions and situations as if they are a threat…Cue the overthinking, depression, illness and anxiety. Add in a sore a back from sitting (or running around!) for eight hours a day, and it’s pretty clear the work-life balance has flown out the window. The good news is, you’re not alone and we are here to help! Floating not only allows your entire body to relax, but your mind too. It has been proven to decrease levels of cortisol and adrenaline (stress hormones), as well as boost dopamine and endorphins (the ‘natural highs’) for more information you can follow this link to the National Center for Biotechnology Information website.
SPORTS PERFORMANCE AND RECOVERY: For the aspiring athletes, weekend warriors, team players, fitspos and gym junkies
How much of our time do we devote to working on our physical selves compared to our mental skills? And how often do you hear people saying that the difference is ‘all in the top ten inches’? The float tank is the perfect environment to strengthen those neural pathways and practice relaxation and visualisation techniques, which is particularly important for those who have experienced an injury or are out of action as explained by the BBC. Floating also allows the muscles and joints to completely relax, repair and soak up all the goodness of the Epsom salts. The magnesium in the Epsom salts is extremely beneficial for reducing inflammation and flushing out toxins, not to mention helping you get a great night’s sleep!
CREATIVITY, LEARNING AND EXPLORATION: for the yogis, meditators, creatives, students and knowledge seekers
A lot of people find the float tank a great environment to tap into the inner workings of their minds or just let them wander in any particular direction. Basically, it’s like super charged meditation- but easier to achieve as you don’t have any external distractions! This allows the brain to create theta brain waves, which usually only occur during a deep sleep or meditation. Some people report feeling as though they’ve had a full night’s sleep after an hour in the pod, others solve problems they’ve been mulling over, some use it for listening to pod casts or memory retention and some people even achieve great creative ideas or enlightenment! We think this blog post really nails it if you would like further insight.
HEALTH: For medical conditions, illness sufferers, injury prone and the health conscious
In the float tank, you are completely weightless so your muscles and joints don’t have the stress of supporting you; they can relax and recover. People who float regularly often notice the remediation of aches and pains, and even some skin conditions! This is great for the elderly or those with conditions such as arthritis, chronic fatigue, muscular sclerosis, migraines and some learning disorders (e.g. autism). The magnesium in the Epsom salts is essential for the functioning of every single organ in your body and has been proven to aid in lowering blood pressure, improving sleep patterns, reducing stress hormones and strengthening the immune system.
PREGNANCY:
It is safe to float in the second and third trimester of your pregnancy, but since everyone is different we recommend that you check with your midwife or GP first. And the great news is you can lie on your back again!! One of the biggest benefits of floating while pregnant is the total absence of weight from the spine and other areas of your body. There is the option of a pillow and other positions that you might find comfortable – have a look here for further suggestions. The magnesium in the Epsom salts is great for better quality sleep, and for promoting soft skin, hair and nails. Lots of pregnant women find floating to be an incredibly special experience as they almost feel ‘at one’ with their babies, and some even report hearing their babies heart beat underwater!
About Us
Say hello to us.
After Reuben’s first float, he was instantly hooked. Hearing first about floating from a Joe Rogan, it was something that had to be experienced first hand. From the first float experience he knew this was something that people have to experience for themselves. Nelson has a unique mix of creative, athletic and business people, who could all benefit from floating. Amazing things happen when you take yourself away from our ever busy and stimulated world. At Uplift, we have created an environment of complete serenity, a place our clients can come to and leave there stressful lives at the door. Floating is for anyone and will benefit everyone, come and see for yourself.
Reuben.
First Float: 2013 From a family of nine children, its safe to say the house was full…of mostly noise. Constant noise. I have lived in Nelson for most of my life with a few stints in Christchurch. I have studied at NMIT and AUT with a background in personal training. Most of my personal training has been focussed on diet and exercise. Looking around, there is very little platforms that focus directly on peoples recovery. I have a passion for the health and fitness industry and helping people, I believe that Uplift Float Centre combines my passions to a knew level and am excited to watch people benefit from Floating.
