The interesting journey of Greg Chapman – Ford / Kia Business Development Consultant

Life is a journey and we know that it takes courage to try something new. Greg is certainly one of the most interesting individuals I’ve ever met. Keep reading and you will see why…

Born in Nelson, Greg attended Nayland college. Then he joined the NZ Army and served for 5 years at Burnham Military Camp in Christchurch. A typical week would involve heavy pack marches, jumping out of perfectly good aeroplanes, and even rehearsing under intense combat scenarios – for example learning how to be interrogated without giving away secret information.

Greg has worked as a fitness trainer, done sports massage and even worked with at risk youth at the Krypton Factor confidence course – who remembers the hit TV show back in the 1990’s?

It was a defining moment when his life was at a cross roads, an insightful flatmate talked him into wearing a suit, where a photograph was taken and his CV sent to Australia for a Qantas flight crew job application. This was done without Greg even knowing! You have to love that!

Out of 5000 applicants Greg made the top 50 and began a long career traveling the world leading a team serving customers on long haul flights with Qantas, and eventually with Air New Zealand.

Based in Auckland with a wife and a young family, Greg chose to move back to Nelson so they could enjoy the more relaxed lifestyle he had been accustomed to in his early years.

Now he’s the Business Development Consultant for Ford / Kia motor vehicles. Greg is making an impact locally, by networking and coming up with fresh ideas for the company – even the local Mayor is driving the new Kia Niro electric car thanks to Greg.

I asked him what kind of skills do you use most days that relate to all the different jobs you have done. I mean, what does a army soldier, sports massage, personal trainer/instructor, flight attendant have in common?

His response was quick and concise, “Team work, Discipline, Managing fear and Leadership”.

You can visit Greg & the Kia team in their new location on 190 Rutherford st. They have a wide range of cars both new and used.
