Ablaze – The 2019 Tasman Fires at Appleby School

ABLAZE – THE 2019 TASMAN FIRES

Venue: Appleby School

Date: 27 February , 10:30 am – 3 pm

The 5th of February marked the two-year anniversary of one of the most significant events in the history of Nelson & Tasman – the 2019 Tasman Fires. To mark this occasion, Nelson Provincial Museum, the regional museum of Nelson Tasman, presents “Ablaze”.
The touring exhibition began with the official opening at the Wakefield Village Hall and has since been to Brightwater School. It has now moved to Appleby School.
The exhibition tells the story of how the Tasman fires affected the community, its animals and environment. It will also highlight the role of the firefighters and many volunteers that helped to get the fire under control. Showcasing the effort that went into keeping people, stock and livelihoods safe.
Locally crowd sourced images will be on display, kindly shared by Nelson and Tasman residents. For a bit of extra fun, a game of ‘Hoses-and-Ladders’, a twist on an old classic.
“Ablaze” Exhibition Tasman tour is made possible through the kind support of Tasman District Council Community Grants 2020.
