PETITION: we’re calling on government to increase financial support for businesses affected by Covid 19. Sign the petition here  and share it widely.
We want to ensure that employers are supported with a similar package to that offered to employees.

Currently employers who meet the required criteria can claim the wage subsidy from Government and businesses claiming the wage subsidy for employees must endeavour to pay the employees 80% of their wage. For some businesses this means topping up the Government subsidy at a time where they have none or significantly reduced income. And businesses still need to meet weekly overheads of rent, rates, subscriptions, hire purchases and a range of other costs.

The Government does offer a one off resurgence payment, however if you look at this, it’s equivalent to about 60% of one week’s overheads. As the Government extends the alert levels and lockdown, employers need the same recognition as employees.

It should also be noted that a Level 4 or 3 lockdown in Auckland impacts on businesses across the whole country. Financial support needs expanding to those businesses that continue to be impacted by Levels 4, 3 and for some even at Level 2 (Delta version).
