It’s World Biryani Day! Biryani was actually invented when the 10th and last Nawab of Awadh (Governer of Awadh) was facing a shortage of food in his region while ruling. He ordered a meal to be cooked for all the poor in huge haandis, covered with a lid and sealed with dough. This helped to cook large amounts of food with minimum resources and that’s how this Indian dish we know and love was created!
