Quin Dental – A natural philosophy

Your dental health is an important aspect of your overall health. It’s easy to take it for granted and being proactive about your dental health is the best form of treatment.

Quin Dental is an established one-stop shop for all things dental. It’s a large open space located in a beautiful building in the heart of our CBD. Many might walk past it after buying some items from Warehouse Stationery. It’s on the second floor and you are greeted with a warm smile from the reception staff and Gabrielle who is the Practice Manager and the wife of Gerry Quin – the principal dentist.

They have been in Nelson for 33 years after responding to an advertisement for a dentist position in Nelson. Raising their family here and building the business, they realised they needed a bigger space 5 years ago and so moved to 14 New Street restoring the building.

“Quin Dental was found on the philosophy of providing the very best natural dental care for the whole family. We believe in preventative care with a minimal intervention approach. We call this our ‘natural care philosophy’. We are different in the fact we are Mercury – Amalgam free. The science has developed much healthier alternatives which we love to use. It’s also – better for the environment.” says Gerry.

We offer a range of dental care including early intervention orthodontics, Invisalign, all general dentistry and hygiene, and needed a larger space so we can help more people in our community. -Early intervention orthodontics allows young children’s mouths to grow with the use of expansion plates, without the need to extract teeth and at the same time improve their airway and their health. Sometimes, if a jaw is too small it will present as overcrowded teeth and can cause problems with sleep, breathing and difficulty eating. Early treatment helps to eliminate this and restore health and self-confidence.

Gerry worked at Waikato hospital after he left dental school, and -gained experience with a wide range of dental skills. He brings this wealth of experience to Nelson – aided by a team of highly skilled dentists Anna and Ben and orthodontic support staff, along with the rest of their team, will care for you and your family. It’s a one-stop shop for the whole family focused on prevention. They provide wide-ranging services, which include treating complicated conditions such as temporomandibular disorders (TMD), snoring problems and sleep apnoea.

In 2014, Gerry completed a Master’s of Science from Tufts University in Boston USA under the guidance of Dr Noshir Mehta of the Craniofacial Pain Clinic to improve his diagnostic skills.

“We love living in Nelson and it has been a great place to raise a family. Our 4 children have enjoyed the benefits of the many outdoor activities and have gone on to lead exciting lives. We have 2 Chiropractors, a school teacher, and our youngest is working on his Masters degree in Economics. We are very proud of them.” says Gabrielle.

Recycling is a big part of Quin Dental. As you could imagine many products have disposable packaging.

“We have implemented the TerraCycle Colgate oral care recycling program. This is an exciting initiative from Colgate where you as a patient can go another step further to be more environmentally friendly and reduce the landfill. Bring in your used & empty dental products and wrappers and place them in our TerraCycle bin which is located as you walk into our practice on the left, beside the water cooler.“

As you can see Quin Dental is a leading organisation. Quick to adapt and embrace new technology while maintaining their core philosophy. We are lucky to have them in our city. Going to the dentist need not be a stress, it’s a relaxed space where you get the best treatment with modern innovative equipment in a friendly caring environment.
