Explanations…

Greetings dear friends & fellow navigators, welcome to my world again this week. If we look closely at our daily lives, one can realize there are times we feel required to explain ourselves to others almost every day.

People want to know why we quit our 9-to-5 stable jobs only to start from scratch again. They want to know what we were thinking when we decided to break the 32-year-long work relationship. They want explanations on why we did not live up to the expectations set by everyone else. They want answers to why we are not “normal” like everybody else.

Yet, we explain ourselves a lot; & more than we need to. Sometimes, we try to make an honest attempt in the hope someone understands why we did the things we did. Other times, we are just looking for approval. We are scared people will get mad at us, so we explain our way out. It is a scary way to live, but it seems like the safest way to survive.

Even when it comes to simple trivial things, there is pressure to justify our choices. We are judged for wearing too much, like a tie, or a waistcoat, or wearing too little, like a raincoat, for choosing to stay away from family or choosing to stay with them. It is a cycle of explanation & never-ending pain.

Accordingly, if like me, one accepts when it is high time to set a boundary. It is our life. So, making choices someone criticizes is completely okay & requires no justification. If they cannot accept it ~ then it is on them. What they think of us in none of my business. We are the ones steering the wheel of our lives & typically no outsider should have the power to influence our plans & decisions.

Beautiful things happen when we listen to ourselves a little more. When we stop looking outside for all the approval, we eventually start to sing more loudly & dance more freely. Some will not like it & some will wish for our downfall. But it will not bother us all too much. We learn to understand it, & it will not bother us at all.

Let our silence be loud in confidence ~ like a shield against people who might not get what we are all about. We do not need to spill our secrets to everyone or explain why something brings us happiness ~ even if the world discourages us about how bad a purchase it would be financially.

As much as we are responsible for our own lives, our near & dear ones also have a big stake in our lives as lifelong investors. There are several moments where everyone involved is owed an explanation/closure for our actions & decisions. We cannot simply vanish because we think it is the right thing to do.

Every leader is only a leader because there are people by their side. As a person striving to live a life so big, it becomes essential to understand when we need to explain ourselves & when we should simply smile & move on. “Outsiders” who have no value addition to our lives are all noise & they deserve no explanation.

Just few observations again dear friends, & provide merely an opinion in my world. Thank you again for stopping by, I appreciate your being here. If my journey encourages you also, all is well with my soul. I hope your days are filled with love & affection. Looking forward to being back next time; this is Kenn Butler in Paradise, Nelson with best wishes.
