SUPPLIED Blake, 6, and Emerson, 5, from Richmond Primary School Year 2 and 3 happily hold their picture, which says it all.

Nelson and Tasman children are invited to get creative with an art competition that will give thanks to our essential workers.

Nelson National MP Nick Smith said it was an opportunity to acknowledge the people who keep our community running during lockdown.

“Championing the work of our doctors, nurses and many others in a way that is consistent and safe with the ‘stay home save lives’ message,” Smith said.

SUPPLIED Sapphire Paul has done this incredible drawing. Sapphire is a Year 7 student from Waimea Intermediate.

Children from year one to eight are invited to take part. The artwork will be sent to service providers and each Saturday, eight prize-winning pieces will be displayed in the Nelson Mail. The artist will also receive a large pottle of ice cream from Appleby Farms once lockdown is over. These are our first week’s winners.

Essential workers include frontline health staff, caregivers, cleaners, supermarket workers, truck drivers and farmers.
