The Big SPRING Street Party – FREE: Nelson Arts Festival

Our city centre, free family day of fun is Saturday 24th October. This vibrant block party will be bringing the heart of the city to life with a mix of community and cultural performers, roving dance and circus performance, live circus, games and music. It will be a major moment of gathering during the Festival, celebrating the creativity, energy and diversity of Whakatū Nelson. The day will be packed with entertainment from 12pm to 8pm including live music, circus, dance, and mind-bending interactive arts experiences. We can’t wait to share the schedule of events with you in early October.

Spring is the season and The Big Spring Street Party is the beating heart of an epic arts festival season, packed full of free and family friendly community fun!
Join us on Upper Trafalgar Street for a joyful explosion of culture, creativity and community on Saturday 24 October.
This will be a vibrant and fun-filled day with live performances including circus, music, dancing, roving artists and witty interactive audience experiences.

Swing – An update
Unfortunately, due to freight and logistics, Swing will not make it to Whakatū or New Zealand in time for this year’s Festival. We’re very disappointed that this installation won’t be able to go ahead as planned. We have explored several options, but ultimately the current global freight challenges with moving large items across the world are beyond our control.

There’s still plenty happening across the Festival, with lots of large-scale, free and participatory events for the community to get involved in, get creative and celebrate together.
